The story really is the same: We go through terrible traffic and noise each Christmas season in Ghana, and end up getting stressed about the excess pocket costs. Other than the visit of family, it does end up getting boring, and we’d like to help you do something about it.

This year’s season should be different.  We are happy to propose a yo-ho-ho Christmas expedition to Survival Island, and we invite the whole family (parents and children alike) to present on this final kayaking expedition of the 2019 adventure season. Folks are invited to present with santa clause, elf and special costumes for costume night on Survival Island on Saturday, December 25.

We’ll leave the Police Post of the Accra Mall at 6PM sharp on December 24, and drive some 2-and-a-half hours to the Volta Gorge area. The first leg of the adventure will involve taking on a series of forested hills to get to Survival Beach on a night hike on the 24th, and getting to Survival Island by motor powered boat. We’ll set up our camping tents and hammocks under the stars and spend the first night. The rest of the weekend will be spent exploring all Lake Volta’s congregated islands and living the life of modern-day Explorers on Survival Island till December 26 when we all will kayak the 3.5km expanse of Lake Volta and end an amazing adventure year in style.

Adventure dates: December 24-26, 2019.
Price: 600-GHS for Adults, & 300-GHS for Children.
Departure location: Accra Mall Car Park
Departure time: 6.00PM

What to Pack: A 20-litre backpack, a pair of outdoor walking sandals, good hiking shoes, a cap or hat, 2 water bottles, 3 sets of outdoor clothing – including a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, one sleeping bag and mat, wash kit – small towel, sponge and soap, toiletries, 1 plate or bowl for meals, a tube of insect repellent, torchlight and spare batteries, and a small box of matchsticks, plus the costumes.

We’ll leave the Accra Mall at 7AM on November 23, 2019 and drive to Asikuma in the Eastern region where we will access the Anyansu forest and hike through its undulating hills. We’ll abseil a little cliff, pick up our kayaks and practice the famous kayak capsize drills before we take on the waves of Lake Volta to Survival Island.

The rest of the weekend will be spent camping, exploring and living the life of modern-day Explorers on Survival Island. Sunday will have us engage the Wall and the Spider Web on the island before we grill fresh tilapia and fry yam, after which we’ll kayak back to shore for the return drive to Accra.

Team-building, Tropical Islands, Vacations, Weekend Tours

Picture this: You and your team have found yourselves in a forest with your backpacks containing outdoor living stuff. You also have a map and a compass. One of Africa’s leading outdoor experts comes over to give you a crash course in map reading and compass navigation. Afterwards you’re on your own. Will you and your team successfully take on the 3km hiking foray into the jungle of the Anum uplands?

When you do make it, it’s to a 20-metre cliff overlooking the world’s largest man-made Lake. West Africa’s leading adventure guides turn up to set up a system of ropes, harnesses and helmets. Your task as a team is to encourage each other to abseil the impregnable Discovery Rock into the boat waiting for you beneath. This is team work, mental resilience and leadership in one heart-stopping package. The rule is one: No one gets left behind. Will you still be a team?

Next we’ll take on the 7km stretch of waves and unpredictability from Discovery Rock to Survival Island in the gorge of Lake Volta, picnic and be refreshed on the island to a repertoire of culinary indulgences relaxing and bonding without a care for urban hustle. All this, in only one day or on an overnight adventure.

Overnight kayaking expeditions on Survival Island involve sleeping in tents or hammocks, cooking food near camp fires, bird-watching and tilapia grilling under a folklore, drumming and dancing night sky.
